He holds a degree in Biological Sciences from the Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP), a PhD in Cell and Tissue Biology from the Universidade de São Paulo (USP) and a post-doctorate in Otology from the Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP). He is coordinator of the Otorhinolaryngology Research Laboratory (ORL-Lab) and professor in the Postgraduate Program in Medicine (Otorhinolaryngology)at UNIFESP. He works in the fields of cell biology and otorhinolaryngology, specializing in head and neck cancer, three-dimensional cell cultures, microscopy techniques, 3D reconstructions and animations. He conducts research using cell culture models to study tensegrity mechanisms, interactions between cells and extracellular matrix and inflammatory processes. He is investigating the role of viral reactivation, inflammation and cellular immunity in the progression of sudden sensorineural hearing loss and is currently also involved in studies related to upper respiratory tract infections and triathlon athletes.
