Pedro Arantes is an Associate Professor 3 at the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp), an architect and urban planner, and holds a PhD from the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the University of São Paulo (2010), with research on transformations in form and production processes in contemporary architecture. He completed his master's degree in urban policies (2004) at the same faculty, with research on the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank in Latin American cities. He is the author of the books "Arquitetura Nova" (2002), "Arquitetura na era digital-financeira" (2012), "The Rent of Form: Architecture and Labor in the Digital Age" (2019), and "8/1: A Rebelião dos Manés" (2024); and he coordinated the publication of various books by the architect Sérgio Ferro. Since 1999, he has been a member of Usina, a non-profit organization that provides technical assistance to popular movements in the field of housing and urban reform, where he served as coordinator for 6 years. In 2015, Usina was awarded by the National Federation of Architects as the best office in the country. At Unifesp, he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Art History at the School of Philosophy, Letters, and Human Sciences (EFLCH), Guarulhos Campus. He served as Deputy Provost (2013-2017) and Provost of Planning at Unifesp (2017-2021). He was a full member of the São Paulo Architecture and Urbanism Council (2015-2017 term). He is a researcher and one of the coordinators of the SoU_Ciência Study Center. His research and work focus on the following areas: theory and criticism of contemporary architecture and art, culture and politics, policies and projects for popular housing, self-management and urban reform, public facilities design, higher education policies, social movements, and more recently, he has been studying cultural wars, the far-right, and denialism.
