Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Instituto de Astronomia, Geofísica e Ciências Atmosféricas (IAG) (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal) Birthplace: Brazil
He holds a Ph.D. in Paleomagnetism (2007), a Masters degree in Solid-State Physics (2002), and a Bachelor's degree in Physics (2000) from the University of São Paulo. He is the coordinator of the Laboratory of Paleomagnetism, Cyclostratigraphy, and Magnetic Mineralogy (LPC2M-ON), a faculty member of the Graduate Program in Geophysics, and a Senior Technologist III at the National Observatory (ON/MCTI). He also serves on the Executive Committee of the Latin American Association of Paleomagnetism and Geomagnetism (LATINMAG). Additionally, he is an associate editor for Geoscience Data Journal (Royal Meteorological Society, UK) and a review editor for Frontiers in Earth Science. He was chair of the National Committee for the international event "7th LATINMAG Biennial Meeting" (2023), associate editor of the Revista Brasileira de Geofísica (RBGf) from 2017 to 2025, and coordinator of the Graduate Program in Geophysics / deputy head of the Graduate Programs Division at ON/MCTI (20182019). In 2008, he conducted a postdoctoral fellowship at the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences (Johns Hopkins University, USA), and in 2015, through the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) - Strategic Programs - DRI (CAPES), he participated as a paleomagnetist in IODP Expedition 356 (Indonesian Throughflow). He was awarded the Cientista do Nosso Estado (Scientist of Our State) and Jovem Cientista do Nosso Estado (Young Scientist of Our State) awards by the Carlos Chagas Filho Foundation for Research Support of the State of Rio de Janeiro (FAPERJ) in 2022 and 2018, respectivelygrants intended for researchers with recognized leadership in their field within the state of Rio de Janeiro. In 2022, he was part of the team that received the 2022 Technological Innovation Award Category I from the Brazilian National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP).He supervises academic work at all levels, including postdoctoral research, and has mentored undergraduate thesis projects at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) and Fluminense Federal University (UFF). He served as coordinator of the Institutional PIBIC Committee for ON/MCTI (20152017). Since 2017, he has been Brazil's lead for the international IGCP 652 (UNESCO) project "Reading geologic time in Paleozoic sedimentary rocks: the need for an integrated stratigraphy."He reviews for various indexed international journals and acts as an ad hoc advisor for research foundations in São Paulo (FAPESP) and Pernambuco (FACEPE). He is the leader of the research group "Cyclostratigraphy and Environmental Magnetism Studies Group," registered with the CNPq Research Groups Directory in Brazil. His research spans several geophysics-related areas in collaboration with both Brazilian and international researchers, with a focus on the following topics: physical properties and magnetic mineralogy of rocks and sediments; magnetostratigraphy; paleomagnetism; geomagnetism (patterns of paleosecular variation during superchrons); paleoclimatology (quasi-periodic processes on centennial to millennial timescales and abrupt climate change events in the geological past); cyclostratigraphy with an emphasis on signal analysis and astronomical tuning of stratigraphic data series (Cenozoic, Paleozoic, and Precambrian records); and investigations into historical geomagnetic records from Brazil.
