I have a bachelor's degree in Agronomy from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (1989), a master's degree in Agronomy (Phytopathology) from the Federal University of Viçosa (1993), and a Ph.D. in Agricultural Sciences (Phytopathology) from the University of Hohenheim, Germany (1999). I conducted post-doctoral research at Embrapa Meio Ambiente (Jaguariúna-SP) and have been a professor at the Federal University of Santa Catarina since 2002. In 2010, I completed a postdoctoral fellowship (sabbatical) at the University of Kentucky, USA. My expertise lies in the field of Agronomy with a focus on Phytopathology, particularly in the following areas: alternative control of plant diseases, the use of marine macroalgae in agriculture, mycology, constitutive and induced resistance against pathogenic fungi, and bio-stimulants. I research diseases in onion, common bean, apple trees, and banana plants. I served as an associate editor for the Brazilian Journal of Plant Physiology (2003 - 2005) and the Tropical Plant Pathology (2006-2017) journals. Since 2016, I have been an editor for the Journal of Plant Diseases and Protection and a consultant for various journals and scientific societies in the field of Phytopathology. I became a Full Professor in 2018 and have been a full member of the Agri-Food Committee of AUGM (Association of Universities of the Montevideo Group) since 2013, serving as the coordinator in 2021-2022.
