Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP). Campus de Jaboticabal. Faculdade de Ciências Agrárias e Veterinárias (FCAV)  (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal)
Birthplace: Brazil

João Claudio is graduated in Animal Science from the College of Animal Science and Food Engineering at the University of São Paulo - USP (1995), mastered in Animal Breeding and Genetics from the College of Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences at São Paulo State University Júlio de Mesquita Filho - UNESP (1998), and Ph.D. in Biological Sciences, with a concentration in Genetics, from the School of Medicine at the University of São Paulo in Ribeirão Preto (2004). He worked as a professor and researcher at the University of Uberaba - UNIUBE, from 1998 to 2010, teaching Statistics, Genetics, and Animal Breeding, and conducting research in the fields of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science. While at UNIUBE, funded by CAPES, he spent one year as a research visitor in the Department of Dairy Science at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly - USA) in 2009. During this time, he researched methodologies for the analysis of genealogical and phenotypic data in estimating genetic and environmental effects on the production and reproductions of dairy cattle.Since 2010, he has been a researcher at the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation - Embrapa, focusing mainly on genetic improvement in dairy cattle. Since 2015, he has assumed the technical coordination of the National Dairy Gir Breeding Program (PNMGL) and actively participates in the technical team of the Genetic Improvement Program of Girolando Cattle (PMGG). These two programs were pioneers in implementing genomic methodologies for the evaluation of dairy cattle in Brazil. In 2018, the PNMGL published the first genomic evaluation summary for a zebu breed worldwide. Male and female summaries for Gir and Girolando breeds are published annually by the group. Since 2019, he has also been a professor/advisor in the Postgraduate Program in Animal Science at José do Rosário Vellano University (UNIFENAS).His research projects have resulted in a consistent scientific production with practical applications in the breeding programs in which he actively participates, bringing technological innovation to the national productive sector. Simultaneously, these studies contribute to the training of students in the Postgraduate Programs of partner universities. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
