B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (1987), M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (1989), and Ph.D. in Mechanics from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN, USA (1998). Research internship at the Laboratoire de Mécanique et d' Acoustique, Marseille, France, from January to June 1990, postdoctoral position at Rice University, Houston, TX, USA, February 1998 to August 1999 and from September to November 2001, and software development engineer in the company Energy Solutions International, Houston, TX, USA, from October 1998 to July 2001. Visiting researcher at the Federal University of Paraná from January 2002 to July 2003, visiting scholar at Don State Technical University, Rostov-on-Don, Russia, from September 07 to 15, 2019, the University of Bordeaux I, Talence, France, June 23 to July 26, 2008, and Tongji University, Shanghai, China, for the period August 15 to 17 2012, and visiting researcher at the University of Minnesota, MN, USA, for the period December 15, 2010 to June 14, 2011. Ph.D. Professor in SET/EESC from August 2003 to May 2015 and Co-chair of the CPG of the PPGIB from 2017 until 2021. Active in the areas of Numerical Methods and Mechanics of Materials and Structures at SET/EESC and Biomechanics at PPGIB. Member of the editorial boards of Journal of Elasticity, Journal of Mechanics of Materials and Structures (JoMMS), Mahematics and Mechanics of Solids, Journal of Peridynamics and Nonlocal Modeling; reviewer of journals, and accredited supervisor in graduate programs in Structural Engineering and Bioengineering at USP. Member of KAUST international committee, Latin American Chair of PACAM XI, member of the organizing committees of PACAMs XII, XIII, and XIV and is Co-Chair of PACAM committee at the American Academy of Mechanics (AAM). Member of American Academy of Mechanics since 1998, the Society for Natural Philosophy (SNP) since 2009, the Brazilian Society of Mechanical Sciences and Engineering (ABCM) since 1989 (intermittent), and Brazilian Society of Computational and Applied Mathematics (SBMAC) since 1989 (intermittent). Acts as ad hoc advisor for CNPq, CAPES, FAPESP and Fundação Araucaria. Research interest in the following topics: Finite Element Method, solid mechanics, optimization methods, nonlinear elasticity , anisotropic elasticity, wave propagation in porous media, homogenization methods, peridynamics.
