Marçal Jose Rodrigues Pires is a Chemical Engineer (UFRGS/1988), master in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (PPGEMM/UFRGS-1990, CAPES 7) and PhD in Atmospheric Chemistry from the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL, Switzerland - 1995). He has post-doctorates in Environmental Analytical Chemistry (IQ/USP- 1996-1997) and in Bioplastic Composites (Université de Mons, Belgium - 2013) and is a full professor at the Polytechnic School of PUCRS (1998) where he works in undergraduate and postgraduate graduation (PGETEMA, CAPES 6) programs. He is coordinator of the Environmental Analytical Chemistry Lab/PUCRS and leader of a research group, supervisor and co-supervisor of master's theses, doctoral theses and post-doctoral supervision and he has several national and international collaborations. The Prof. Marçal has been developing studies in related areas: a) Trace Analysis and Environmental Chemistry, b) Atmospheric Chemistry, c) Synthesis, characterization and use of zeolites and biosorbents from waste, d) Characterization and preparation of composite separators for lithium ion batteries. e) Compliance of ozonizers and safe use of ozone.
