Marcos André Gonçalves

Marcos André Gonçalves holds a degree in Computer Science from the Federal University of Ceara (1995), a master's degree in Computer Science from the State University of Campinas (1997), a PhD in Computer Science from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech), and a post-doctorate from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (2006) and Poitécnico di Torino (IT, 2024). He is currently a Full Professor at the Federal University of Minas Gerais. He has received several awards and honors throughout his career, including several awards in national Thesis and Dissertation Competitions, including two CAPES Thesis Awards (2024, 1st place, advisor; 2020, Honorable Mention, co-advisor) and several best paper awards. He works in the area of #8203;#8203;Computer Science with an emphasis on Information Retrieval, Machine Learning, and Natural Language Processing. He has published over 400 peer-reviewed articles in these research areas. His h-index is 60 (Google Scholar) with over 14,000 citations. He was General Chair of the ACM/IEEE Joint Conference on Digital Libraries (2018) and is a Senior Committee Member of the main conferences in his area of #8203;#8203;expertise (ACM SIGIR, ACL, ACM RecSys, ACM CIKM, ACM WSDM, ECIR, etc.). He is also Senior Editor of the Journal of the Brazilian Computer Society, responsible for the area of #8203;#8203;Information Retrieval and Recommender Systems, and is a member of the editorial board of the Transactions of the Association of Computational Linguistics (TACL). He was an Affiliate Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (5-year term), is a CNPq Productivity Scholar (level 1-B), former full Member of the Chamber of Exact Sciences (CEX) of FAPEMIG and Coordinator of the National Institute of Science and Technology (INCT) in Artificial Intelligence Responsible for Computational Linguistics and Information Treatment and Dissemination - INCT-TILD-IAR.
