Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Instituto de Física (IF) (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal) Birthplace: Brazil
Born in Sao Paulo, Capital, in 1962. He has Bachelors in Physics from the University of São Paulo (1984), MA in Physics from the University of São Paulo (1987), and Ph.D. in Physics from the University of São Paulo (1992). He has postdoctorate at the National Institute of Water & Atmospheric Research (NIWA),New Zealand, in the environment area: Effects of Climate Change and Land Degradation. He was visiting researcher at several occasions Lab Tandar and UNSL (both Argentina), UdelaR (Uruguay), ANU (Australia) and CIEMAT (Spain). He is currently Associate Professor at the Institute of Physics of the Universidade Federal Fluminense. He has experience in Nuclear Physics, focusing on heavy ion-induced nuclear reaction products and applied nuclear physics in the life and environmental sciences. Since 1999, he is coordinator of the Laboratory of Radioecology and Environmental Change (LARA) and leader of the ?Applied Nuclear Physics on Environmental Studies? research group at UFF. He is supervisor/advisor of Postdocs, PhD and Master candidates, undergrad students, research staff and outside visitors. His research focus is radioecology (using fallout radionuclides and compound-specific stable isotopes techniques as tracers of environmental process); radiocarbon dating by accelerator mass spectrometry AMS (paleoclimatic, palaeoenvironmental, and geophysical studies) and; modern climate change and variability. Additionally, he is looking for the strengthening soil and water conservation strategies at landscape level for sustainable food production in Latin America and Caribbean, and assessing the impact of climate change and its effects on soil and water resources on polar and mountainous regions, both using innovative stable and radio isotopes and related techniques. These projects are being supported by the IAEA (ARCAL and INT programs, respectively). (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
