She has graduated in Physics from Universidade Federal do Paraná (1989), has obtained her master's in Astronomy from Universidade de São Paulo (1993) and she has got her doctorate degree, also in Astronomy, from Universidade de São Paulo (1997). As a post-doctoral researcher, D. R. Gonçalves has worked in several institutions, including: the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (Spain, 1998-2004); the Universidade de São Paulo (Brazil, 2005-2007); and the University College London (2010-2011, UK). Since 2007 she has a permanent position at the Obseratório do Valongo - Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, where she is now a Associated Professor. During 2016 and 2017 she was the Head of the Graduate Program of her institute. Dr. D. R. Gonçalves expertise is in Physics and Astronomy, with focus on Astronomy, and mainly working on the following subjects: final stages of stellar evolution --planetary nebulae and symbiotic stars-- and nebular chemical abundances, either in the Galaxy or galaxies of the Local Group. In addition of being an observational astronomer -- in optical and IR wavelengths -- she bases her studies on 1D and 3D photoionization and morpho-kinematic modelling of nebulae.
