Augusto João Piratelli

I completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Ecology at the University of Missouri - St. Louis, in the United States (2005); a PhD in Zoology from São Paulo State University - Unesp - Rio Claro (1999); a Master's degree in Ecology from the State University of Campinas (1992); and a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from the University of São Paulo - USP - Ribeirão Preto (1986). Currently, I am a Full Professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences (CCTS) at the Federal University of São Carlos, Sorocaba Campus, where I was the first coordinator of the Biological Sciences Course - Bachelor's Degree (2006-2009) and Head of Department (2021-2022). I was Editor-in-Chief of Ararajuba (Brazilian Journal of Ornithology/Ornithology Research) and Associate Editor of the Journal Biota Neotropica. I am currently an associate editor of the Journal of Neotropical Biology, Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution, and Urban Ecosystems. I was a member of the Advisory Board of the Ipanema National Forest (2024-2025). I am President of the Brazilian Ornithological Society (2024/2025) and Editor of the Bulletin of the Brazilian Ornithological Society. I have been an honorary member (Fellow) of the International Ornithologist's Union since 2022 (https://www.internationalornithology.org/iou-fellows). I participate in the Study Commission (CE-037:000.003) of ABNT, which discusses and establishes rules for the manufacture of Flat Glass in Brazil. I have experience in Ecology, with an emphasis on the ecology and conservation of urban birds and the effects of anthropization on the loss of species and functional diversity of birds and ecosystem functions. I supervise master's and doctoral students in the Postgraduate Programs in Wildlife Conservation (http://www.ppgcfau.ufscar.br/) and Ecology and Natural Resources (http://www.ppgern.ufscar.br/), both at the Federal University of São Carlos. I am the leader of the CNPq research group "Ecology, systematics and conservation of natural resources" (dgp.cnpq.br/dgp/espelhogrupo/1981706075290225).
