Felipe Mendonça Pimenta

Prof. Felipe Pimenta is an associate professor of the Oceanography department of the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC, 2013-present) and Researcher at the National Institute of Science and Technology in Oceanic and Fluvial Energies (INCT/INEOF). He has a Bachelor degree in Oceanography from the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG, 1998), a Master of Science in Physical Oceanography from the Oceanographic Institute of the University of São Paulo (IOUSP, 2001) and a PhD in Physical Sciences and Ocean Engineering from the University of Delaware in the United States (UDEL, 2009). Worked as a Post-Doc at the Federal University of Itajubá (UNIFEI, 2009-2010) and the National Institute for Space Research (INPE, 2010 to 2011). Worked as a researcher at the Maritime Hydraulics Laboratory at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) from 2001 to 2004. Worked at the Department of Geophysics at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN, 2010 to 2013), Postgraduate Program of Climate Sciences (PPGCC/UFRN, from 2010 to 2016) and Postgraduate Program in Oceanography (PPGOceano/UFSC, 2014-2021). His research interests in renewable energy, include offshore wind, tidal energy, hydropower, and wave energy. In coastal physical oceanography, he combines observations and numerical modeling to study wind-driven circulations, estuarine processes, river currents, tides, and coastal meteorology.
