Dr. ANDREA BALTAZAR got her PH.D. in Social Anthropology by the University of São Paulo, USP, in São Paulo city SP Brazil, in October 10th 2003. She wrote a thesis named: Peasant Culture and Television. The Vision of the Self and the Image of the Other through the Brazilian television fiction, after 5 years of field-research in the Pantanal of Mato Grosso (Southern Amazon) and in the Amazon. Nowadays she is a Post-doctoral Fellow, Researcher and Entry-Level Professor, at the Human Sciences Institute, IFCH, of the State University of Campinas, UNICAMP in Campinas, SP, Brazil. Her current research-project is on Media in Contemporary Brazilian Popular Culture.She also has a Bachelors Degree, BA, in Applied Social Sciences, meaning Sciences of Communication, from São Paulo State University, UNESP, Bauru SP Brazil. The 4 years long course was concluded in December 1992 and the name of her monography is: Peasant Culture, Integration and Resistance: a Walk in the Fields of the Traditional Small Farmers from a small and countryside city, Brotas (monographic), SP, Brazil.As a personal skill, her mentors also use to mention the ability and commitment in mentoring young and beginning students of anthropology with the fieldwork experience. In addition, it is worth mentioning her accurate visual perception, due to her training in visual anthropology, ethnographic photography and video.Her areas of specialization are Socio-Cultural Anthropology, Rural Anthropology (Brazilian Peasant and Indigenous Ethnography), Visual Anthropology, Anthropology of the Image, Sociology and Anthropology of Media, Applied Anthropology, Video and Photography in Anthropological Research and Methodology of Fieldwork. Her experience in the non-academic jobs is worth mentioning the two she performed in the social areas of the Brazilian Government: anthropologist consultant of FUNAI (Indigenous People National Foundation) for legal identification and establishing of indigenous land (Mura ethnic group) in the Amazon Forest, Amazonia, Brazil (from May to September 2008); and anthropologist consultant of ITESP (Land Institute of Sao Paulo State) for identification and establishing of Afro-Brazilian people (slavers descendants named quilombolas) in their ancient rural areas in the São Paulo countryside, Brazil (from September 1998 to February 1999).
