Fernando studied piano from the age of 8 to 17, when he decided to pursue an academic career in the field of Chemistry. In 2003, he gave up this career to dedicate himself professionally to Music, completing a bachelor's degree in Harpsichord at the Faculdade de Artes Alcântara Machado (FAAM - São Paulo) in 2009. After a period of experience in baroque orchestras and popular music groups, he joined the doctoral program in Musicology at the Arts Institute of the Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP), where he specialized in Medieval and Renaissance music theory and analysis, obtaining the title of Doctor in 2017. His research, based on methodologies for the analysis of polyphonic genres such as Moteto and Ricercare, was presented at international congresses (Madrid, 2015; Boston, 2015; Nottingham, 2016; Maynooth, Ireland, 2018; Pub-Boston, 2019; Edimburgh, 2020, Munich, 2023, Palestrina, 2025) as well as national congresses (ABRAPEM, 2016; Performa Clavis 2020, 2022; ANPPOM, 2015, 2016, 2019; EITAM, 2017, 2019, 2023; EPPM, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2019; 2020; 2021, 2023, 2024; GReCo, 2017; SEMPEM 2014, SIM-UFRJ, 2019; and TeMa, 2019, 2023, 2024). He then completed a post-doctoral research at Boston University entitled "From successive composition to simultaneous conception: evolution of cadential planes, arrangement and texture in polyphonic writing of the 15th and 16th centuries", under the supervision of Dr. Joshua Rifkin (Capes Post-Doc Exterior Fellowship , process 88881.171273/2018-01); still in Boston, he participated in the prestigious "Boston Early Music Festival" as a harpsichordist and organist in three concerts with different groups. From March 2020 to March 2022 he was a postdoctoral fellow at ECA-USP (non-scholarship modality), under the supervision of Dr. Monica Lucas and he was a temporary substitute professor (2022, 2023 and 2024 competitions) in undergraduate courses in Music from the UNESP Arts Institute in São Paulo (subjects related to Counterpoint and Perception in their modal and atonal scopes). From May 2023 he also becomes a teacher at Centro Universitário UniSant'Anna, teaching Auditory Training, Counterpoint and Music Production (2023) in addition to Music Appreciation and History of Jazz (2024), besides complementary piano, contemporary music and musical perception (2025) for the evening Music course. In Brazil, he is a member of the early music group FICTA and collaborates with several early music groups; He is also a member of "Miltrens" project in tribute to Brazilian composer Milton Nascimento. In 2025, Fernando will be dedicated to events related to the 500th anniversary of the birth of the Renaissance composer Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, having already presented a paper at the "Convegno Palestriniano" in May (Palestrina, Italy), for which he received financial support from the Fondazione Palestrina for his travel and accommodation, and he is due to present another paper in July, at MedRen 2025, to be held in Newcastle (United Kingdom).
