He holds a degree in Pharmacy and Biochemistry from the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (1995), a Master's degree in Biological Sciences (Molecular Biology) from the Federal University of São Paulo (1999) and a PhD in Biological Sciences (Molecular Biology) from the Federal University of São Paulo ( 2004). He is currently Full Professor at the Department of Biochemistry / ICB at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora. He has experience and develops projects in the area of #8203;#8203;Biochemistry, with emphasis on Glycids (complex carbohydrates), working mainly on the following topics: Isolation and kinetic characterization of chondroitinases from Flavobacterium heparinum; Extraction, purification and characterization of glycosaminoglycans (dermatam sulfate, chondroitin sulfate and hyaluronic acid) from different tissues and animal species; Extraction and characterization of extracellular matrix proteglycans; Study of the anti-inflammatory activity of chondroitin sulfate in experimental models of colitis induced by dextran sulfate, extrahepatic cholestasis and in cell line culture; Quality control of chondroitin sulfate used as raw material in compounding pharmacies and Development and production of Hydrogels for Articular Cartilage Regeneration. He is currently an advisor for the Postgraduate Programs in Health and the Professional Master's Program in Biology Teaching - PROFBIO / UFJF. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
