Birthplace: Brazil

Camilla is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Inorganic Chemistry of the University of Campinas. Her scientific interests are bioinorganic chemistry and medicinal bioinorganic chemistry, particularly the mechanism of metalloproteins and their inhibition by small molecules. In this field, she has studied zinc fingers as therapeutic targets and their inhibition by metal complexes, as the interaction of metallo-beta-lactamases (MBL) with metal complexes. She currently works in the biomimetics development of MBL and SOD and studies the mechanism of action of these enzymes and their inactivation by metals. She studied the design of metal complexes for the treatment of diseases, with a focus on neglected diseases. Recently she was a guest scientist at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). Previously, she developed a postdoctoral project at the Institute of Chemistry at Unicamp in the area of Inorganic Chemistry, Bioinorganic, and Coordination Chemistry. She completed his Ph.D. in the area of Bioinorganic and Chemical Coordination at Unicamp, including a sandwich internship at Virginia Commonwealth University, under the guidance of Dr. Nicholas P. Farrell. She holds a master's degree in Unicamp in Inorganic Chemistry in materials, specifically silicones. She had worked professionally as an Application Engineer providing technical assistance at Dow Corning in Brazil up to 2010. She graduated in Chemistry from Unicamp. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
