He holds a degree in Biochemical Pharmacy - Clinical Analysis from the University of São Paulo (1993), a Master's degree in Biological Sciences (Biochemistry) - Department of Biochemistry (1997) and a PhD in Biological Sciences (Biochemistry) from the University of São Paulo (2001). He received a Recent Doctoral Scholarship (2003-2005) at the Department of Biochemistry at the Federal University of Santa Catarina. He is currently Full Professor at the University of the State of Santa Catarina where he began his work in 2006. He was Head of the Department of Animal Production and Food and Coordinator of the Multicenter Postgraduate Programs in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Animal Science. He has experience in Biochemistry, with emphasis on Biochemistry of Trypanosomatids of veterinary interest (Trypanosoma evansi and Trypanosoma vivax) and their vectors. His research interests are: Host parasite interaction and discovery of new biomarkers for chemotherapy and diagnosis. He is a member of the Brazilian Society of Protozoology (SBPZ), Brazilian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SBBq) and Brazilian Society for the Progress of Science (SBPC) and a member of the OIE NTTAT (OIE Non Tsetse Transmitted Animal Trypanosomoses) Network.
