Matheus de Freitas Fernandes-Pedrosa holds a degree in Pharmacy from UFRN (1999) and a PhD in Biotechnology from USP (2005). He served as a Scientific Researcher at the Butantan Institute in São Paulo, working in the Immunochemistry Laboratory from 2004 to 2006. He is a Full Professor in the Department of Pharmacy at UFRN and has been a CNPq Productivity Fellow since 2009, currently holding the CNPq/PQ - 1B designation. Dr. Fernandes-Pedrosa is affiliated with the Postgraduate Programs at UFRN in Pharmaceutical Sciences (PPgCF), Biochemistry (PPgBQ), and Development and Technological Innovation in Medicines (PPgDITM). He has served as Coordinator of PPgCF-UFRN from 2015 to 2019, Deputy Coordinator of PPgDITM from 2021 to 2023, and Deputy Head of the Pharmacy Department at UFRN from 2009 to 2011. Additionally, he was vice-president of the Brazilian Society of Toxinology (SBTX) from 2015 to 2017.He leads a research team of 17 members, including students in Scientific Initiation, Masters, Doctoral programs, and two Postdoctoral researchers. He has supervised 18 Doctoral theses, 22 Masters dissertations, 39 Scientific Initiation projects, and 4 Postdoctoral researchers. Dr. Fernandes-Pedrosa coordinates, collaborates on, and serves as an Ad Hoc Advisor for various national and international projects funded by CNPq, CAPES, FINEP, and FAPS in Brazil. He was the Executive Manager of the BIO INOVA/UFRN Incubator from 2020 to 2022. He is a full member of the Ethics Committee on the Use of Animals (CEUA/UFRN) since 2021 and a member of the Deliberative Council of FUNPEC/UFRN since 2024. He is also part of the National Institute of Positive Science and Technology of the Brazilian Health Industrial Economic Complex 4.0 (INCT TEC.CIS 4.0). His expertise in Biotechnology includes scorpion peptides (transcriptomics, proteomics, structural characterization, and biological activity), antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), snake proteins (biological activity and natural anti-venom products), inflammation, immunobiological production (sera and vaccines), and patents for biotechnological products and processes. He holds 6 granted patents from INPI. Dr. Fernandes-Pedrosa has international collaborations with the "Laboratory of Bacterial Communication and Anti-infectious Strategies" at Université de Rouen-Normandie, France; the "Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology" at Universidad de Granada, Spain; the "Department of Farmacia y Tecnología Farmacéutica" at Universidad de Sevilla, Spain; and the "Institute of Tropical Medicine Department of Molecular Infection Dynamics" at Nagasaki University, Japan.
