Pedro Valadão Carelli

Associate Professor at the Federal University of Pernambuco. He holds a degree in Physics from the University of São Paulo (2003) and a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of São Paulo (2008) in the field of dynamical systems and nonlinear phenomena in biological neural networks. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Unité de Neurosciences, Information et Complexité of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (UNIC - CNRS) in France, where he conducted in vivo experiments, studying complex phenomena in the primary visual cortex (V1), and participated in the European project FACETS (Fast Analog Computing with Emergent Transient States), an interdisciplinary European research initiative bridging Neuroscience and Neuromorphic Computing. His research spans areas involving Physics, Neuroscience, and Neural Networks, with a focus on the following topics: dynamical systems, criticality, biological, artificial, and hybrid neural networks, modeling of neurons and neural networks, real-time interaction between computers and biological neural networks, synchronization of neural oscillators, and lateral interaction dynamics in the primary visual cortex. His experimental work employs techniques of intracellular and extracellular electrophysiology using electrode arrays.He is involved in the formulation and management of scientific policy. Since 2020, he has served as the Pro-Rector of Research and Innovation at UFPE. In 2024, he was the coordinator of the Council of Pro-Rectors of Research, Postgraduate Studies, and Innovation of Federal Universities.
