Pedro H. H. Araújo joined the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) in June of 2003 as professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Food Engineering. After graduation in Chemical Engineering at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in 1992, he spent 2 years at Michelin and returned to the University receiving his PhD in 1999 from PEQ / COPPE / UFRJ under supervision of Prof. José Carlos Pinto. During his Ph.D. he spent 2 years at the University of the Basque Country (San Sebastian, Spain) under the supervision of Prof. Asua. He performed experimental work on emulsion polymerization in continuous loop reactor and mathematical modeling of the evolution of particle size distribution. After, he moved for a post-doctoral stay at the Department of Chemical Engineering of the University of São Paulo under supervision of Prof. Giudici, working from 1999 to 2003 with modeling, monitoring and optimization of emulsion polymerization reactions. In 2012-2013 he spent one year at the Max-Planck Institute for Polymer Research (Mainz, Germany) as visiting scientist working with miniemulsion polymerization with Prof. Landfester. Since 2003 as professor at UFSC, his main research interests are: emulsion and miniemulsion polymerization; mathematical modeling and monitoring of polymerization reactions; enzyme catalyzed reactions; nanoencapsulation of bioactive compounds and inorganic materials; synthesis of monomers and polymers using compounds from renewable sources.
