Roberta Sakai holds Bachelor s and Master s degrees in Architecture and Urbanism from the Institute of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of Sao Paulo. Her MA dissertation concentrated on the regulation of street vending in the city of Campinas, a Brazilian municipality located in the state of Sao Paulo whose population is estimated in one million inhabitants. The occupation of public space was discussed since the relation to the concepts of city centre revitalization, the formal and informal circuits of trade and the street vendors trajectories. During the PhD her studies will be extended to the debate of international slum upgrading programmes. The aim is to evaluate the technical cooperation projects for urban development offered by Brazil to African countries since 2003, emphasising the Brazilian knowledge transfer in Housing to Mozambique. The research will start in the academic year 2013-2014 and be developed at King s College London under the Brazil Institute's supervision. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
