She holds a Bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of São Paulo, and a Master's and PhD in Ecology from the State University of Campinas. She is a Full Professor at the State University of Santa Cruz (UESC), member of the Graduate Program in Ecology and Biodiversity Conservation (PPGECB) at UESC and the Graduate Program in Ecology and Biomonitoring at the Federal University of Bahia. She took sabbatical leave from 2008-2009 at the University of Queensland, Australia (CNPQ postdoctoral fellowship), and in 2015 at the University of Leeds, England (CAPES senior fellowship). She coordinates research projects focused on the ecology and conservation of communities and species in anthropized landscapes of the cocoa region in southern Bahia. Currently, she coordinates Bioeconomy research projects, with an emphasis on environmental services. She has experience in the field of Ecology, with an emphasis on Conservation Biology, the area with the highest concentration of her published articles. She coordinates the CNPq research group Applied Ecology for Conservation Laboratory (LEAC), founded the Dríades Institute, and is part of the founding board of the Sucupira Institute, both civil society institutions with the objectives of conducting research and actions related to biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. She was part of the board of trustees of the Bahia State Research Support Foundation (2019-2021 term), and is currently the coordinator of the Data Board of Trustees and the Management Board of the Porto Sul Social Observatory, a partnership between UESC and the South Bahia Science and Technology Park (PCTSUL), and an alternate member of the State Management Group for the implementation of the Bahia State Plan for Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change in Agriculture for the Consolidation of a Low Carbon Economy - Plano ABC+ Bahia. Her work focuses on the following topics: bat ecology, biodiversity in anthropized landscapes and agroforestry systems, ecology of species of conservation interest (Chaetomys subspinosus, Megaptera novaeangliae), and bioeconomy, particularly with practical projects in biocredits (carbon and biodiversity).
