Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Instituto de Biociências (IB) (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal) Birthplace: Brazil
Biologist, PhD in Zoology from the University of São Paulo (2003), Master in Biological Sciences (Zoology) from the National Museum/UFRJ (1997), and a Bachelors degree in Biological Sciences Ecology track from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1992). I served as an Associate Professor at the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO) from 2009 to 2025, where I taught courses in Environmental Management, Environmental Forensics, Biogeography (with emphasis on Landscape Ecology), Vertebrate Zoology (fishes), and Conservation Biology, at both undergraduate and graduate levels. I also coordinated the Bachelors degree program in Environmental Sciences (20142018) and participated in two graduate programs: Neotropical Biodiversity (PPGBIO) and Ecotourism and Conservation (PPGEC).My academic and professional path is strongly interdisciplinary, bridging Zoology, Ecology, and Environmental Management. I began my career with a focus on Ichthyology, Phylogenetic Systematics, and Biogeography, and later expanded my work to include protected areas, environmental impact assessment and auditing, stakeholder mapping, and conservation policy. I have extensive field experience in Brazil (including the Amazon) and abroad (Suriname, Venezuela, and Curaçao), having collaborated in biological inventories, environmental licensing, and endangered species assessments. I also worked as an environmental expert for the Public Prosecutors Office of the State of Rio de Janeiro.Since 2019, I have been a collaborating researcher at the Centre for Studies in Geography and Spatial Planning (CEGOT) at the University of Coimbra. At CEGOT, I conducted a postdoctoral project focused on scientometrics and research network mapping in ecotourism and community-based tourism, using tools such as VOSviewer and Gephi. My current interests include complexity theory, spatial analysis, and socio-ecological systems modelling, integrating insights from biological, environmental, and geographical sciences.
