Li Weigang

Prof. Li Weigang got Doctor in Science from the Aeronautics Institute of Technology - ITA (1994) and conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Calgary, Canada (2001-2). He is currently a full professor of the Department of Computer Science (CIC) at the University of Brasília - UnB. He was a researcher of FAPESP and also is a researcher of CNPq (PQ), Boeing Inventor, IEEE senior member, coordinator of the Laboratory of Computational Model and Intelligence for Transport (TransLab.unb.br). He has coordinated and/or participated in several projects supported by the Foundations as CAPES, CNI, CNPq, FINEP, FAPDF, FAPESP and MCTI, even with the cooperation projects with Atech, Boeing and DECEA. He was head of CIC (2018-2022) and the coordinator of the graduate program of the department of UnB (2003-06 and 2008-09) and supervised more than 100 undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral students. He joined the Brazilian Conference on Intelligent Systems (BRACIS and ENIAC) since the SBIA and SBRN era. He was general coordinator of the Brazilian Air Transport Research Symposium (SITRAER/SBTA 2006, 2012, 2019), and of the Brazilian Workshop on Social Network Analysis and Mining (BraSNAM/SBC 2014, 15). He contributes and participates as an Associate Editor of the magazine Transportes da ANPET (2018-present) and participated in the scientific committee of events and national and international journals. His main scientific contribution is the "Once-learning" approach for Machine Learning, proposed in 1998 (https://arxiv.org/abs/quant-ph/9808025). His research lines are: Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computational Modeling for Air Traffic Management (ATM), and Natural Language Processing. Within hundreds of publications, he won several awards such as the CNT/ANPET Academic Production Awards in 2003, 2013, and 2024, and a doctoral student won the 1st place among the best monographs in the Civil Aviation Secretariat award in 2016, and another with Honorable Mention from the UnB Award for Dissertation and Thesis 2018-2019.
