Bachelor in Pharmaceutical Science at University of São Paulo, focusing on Food Science (1977), MSc. and PhD. in Food Science at the same University (1979 and 1991). He was a visiting research at FDA, perform part of his PhD at the University of California -Davis- and a postdoc position in University of California -San Diego- in molecular and cell biology of plants. He was Associate Professor at the Department of Food and Esperimental Nutrition at University of São Paulo. Has experience in Food Science and Technology, acting on the following subjects: genetic modified organisms (GMO), food safety, biosafety, food enzymes, roots and seeds, risk analysis and regulatory issues. He was member since August, 2008 and president of the CTNBio - the Brazilian National Technical Commission on Biosafety from March, 2012 to March, 2014.
