Maria Cristina Canela is an undergraduate in Chemistry from the State University of Campinas (1993), a master's degree in Chemistry from the State University of Campinas (1995) and a PhD in Science from the State University of Campinas (1999). Now, she is a titular professor and dean of research and postgraduate studies at the State University of North Fluminense Darcy Ribeiro with twenty-three years of experience in research and teaching in environmental chemistry. Specializing in analytical and environmental chemistry, Maria uses that experience to advise doctorate and undergraduate students in research projects (10 PhD thesis and 17 master's). She is currently a Scientist of State in Rio de Janeiro (2021).By focusing on emergent contaminants in aquatic and drinking water and air analysis and purification using photocatalysis, Maria has published 46 papers in international periodicals. Over the years, Maria directed the Environmental Chemistry section of the Brazilian Chemistry Society and has garnered some recognition for their contribution to the scientific community in Brazil. Maria also is on the editorial board of the Journal Brazilian Chemical Society and is a reviewer of many scientific journals. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
