Valeria Fagundes

Holds a Bachelors degree in Biological Sciences from the University of São Paulo (1989), a Short and Full Licentiate degree in Biological Sciences from the University of São Paulo (1990), a Masters degree in Biological Sciences (Genetic Biology) from the University of São Paulo (1993), and a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences (Genetic Biology) from the University of São Paulo (1997). She is a professor at the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES) and a permanent faculty member of the Graduate Program in Animal Biology at UFES (Masters and Ph.D. levels) since February 2000.She conducts research in the field of Genetics, with an emphasis on Animal Genetics, Evolutionary Genetics, and Evolutionary Cytogenetics, focusing primarily on the following topics: evolutionary cytogenetics, conservation genetics, evolution, and molecular phylogeography of vertebrates. To date, she has supervised 130 graduate (Masters and Ph.D.) and undergraduate students (see bibliographic production and supervised projects).She has served as the coordinator of the Graduate Program in Biological Sciences (Animal Biology) for over 10 years between 2001-2008, 2016-2017, 2018-2020, and 2023-present; curator of the Vertebrate Tissue and DNA Bank at UFES from 2005-2007; and head of the Department of Biological Sciences at UFES for over 4 years between 2008-2010 and 2017-2018. She also held the position of Technical-Scientific and Innovation Director at the Espírito Santo Research and Innovation Support Foundation (FAPES) for 6 years between 2010-2016.The contact email is valeria.fagundes@ufes.br.
