Coraci Ruiz was born in São Paulo in 1978. She has been working as a documentary filmmaker since 2003, when, together with Julio Matos and Hidalgo Romero, she founded the Cisco Lab - a documentary production company with themes related to popular culture, environment, human rights and politics, based in Barão Geraldo, Campinas.She studied the relationship between dance and photography and video in the undergraduate project "Metapoesia nãoverbal: um olhar fotográfico sobre a dança" (Nonverbal Metapoetry: A Photographic Look at Dance), funded by FAPESP. She holds a master's degree in Audiovisual and Media Culture from Unicamp (2009), with the research "Documentary device and video letters: approaches", financed by Fapesp, and a doctorate in Multimedia (2020), also at Unicamp, with the research "Autobiographical documentary by women: technologies, gestures and aesthetics of resistance", financed by CAPES. She also attended the workshop "Realización de Documentales" at EICTV, Cuba (2005).As a director, she has directed several short and feature films, besides educational videos. Her main works are the feature films "Threshold" (77', 2020), which had its International Premiere at the competitive showcase of the Canadian Hot Docs festival, was screened at more than 80 of festivals in several countries and received 22 awards in Brazil, Peru, Argentina, Portugal, Italy, Spain and USA; "Germino Pétalas no Asfalto" (79', 2022), directed in partnership with Julio Matos, which premiered at the 25th Tiradentes Film Festival, has been shown at festivals in several countries and received 13 awards in Brazil and abroad; and "Cartas para Angola" (2012), also directed in partnership with Julio Matos, which received awards in Brazil, Angola, Portugal and Belgium. He also directed the series "Sonora Brasil - Líricas Femininas" (4 episodes of 1h), for SESCTV; and "Um dia na vida em Paraty e Ilha Grande" (8 episodes of 15', 2022), made with resources of the Match Funding edict Benfeitoria and BNDES exhibited by TVT (Workers' Television).He is currently working on his fourth feature film, "Furta-Cor", which received support from the Canadian foundation AlterCiné; and the short film "Lute como uma mãe", awarded by ProAc 2022.
