He is Full Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering of Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), where he works since 1999. He received the bachelor?s degree in physics, master?s in physics and Doctor of Science from the State University of Campinas (Unicamp) in 1985, 1989 and 1995, respectively. He had worked with selective surfaces for solar heaters, electrochemical deposition of alloys, superconducting vortex dynamics and preparation and characterization of high critical temperature superconductors. He had participated in the Maglev-Cobra Project team since its beginning in 1998 until 2018. He had been the Head of Electrical Engineering Department of UFRJ, 2010 to 2012, and Chair of Graduate Program in Electrical Engineering of COPPE/UFRJ, 2014 to 2016. He is IEEE Senior Member and Cigré Member. Currently his main study field is simulation, design and construction of superconducting devices. He develops projects of Superconducting Fault Current Limiters and Superconducting Machines in partnership with the CEPEL / Eletrobrás and the Fluminense Federal University..
