Gustavo Dias is a professor at the Department of Social Sciences, the UFMG-Unimontes Associated Postgraduate Programme in Society, Environment and Territory (PPGSAT) and the Postgraduate Programme in History (PPGH). He has a Research and Technological Development Incentive Scholarship (BIPDT - FAPEMIG) and is the leader of Odisseia: Núcleo de Pesquisa Abdelmalek Sayad/ CNPq. Gustavo was editor-in-chief of the journal Argumentos - Revista do Departamento de Ciências Sociais da Unimontes, between the 2017-2020 and 2021-2024 quadrenniums, and is a columnist for the digital platform Latinoamérica 21. He has a postdoctoral internship at the Postgraduate Studies Programme in Social Sciences at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP). He was a Fellow of the Summer Programme of Social Sciences at the Institute for Advanced Studies - Princeton University (2021-2023), and a Visiting Scholar at the Institute for Research into Superdiversity (IRiS) at the University of Birmingham, through the Brazil Visiting Fellows Scheme. He holds a PhD in Sociology from Goldsmiths - University of London, with a full PhD scholarship from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). He completed his Master's degree in Social Sciences at the Federal University of São Carlos - UFSCar, with funding from FAPESP, and his Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences (2002) at the São Paulo State University - UNESP. He has ethnographic experience with undocumented Brazilians in England and Portugal, and has carried out research in historical archives in Brazil and France. Researcher focused on the study of migratory mobility, with an emphasis on Brazilian migration and the intellectual production of Abdelmalek Sayad on colonialism, migration and the state.
