He is a Doctor in Dental Surgery (DDS) from the Federal University of Bahia - UFBA (2002), and holds a Master's (MS, 2005) and a PhD (2008) degree in Oral and Dental Biology with a concentration in Histology and Embryology from the State University of Campinas - UNICAMP. He is currently Full Professor (since 04/29/2024) and Vice-Director (since 06/14/2022) of the Institute of Health Sciences of UFBA, where he served as Head of the Department of Biomorphology in three biennia (from 04/23/2011 to 04/22/2013, from 04/23/2013 to 04/22/2015 and from 04/24/2019 to 04/23/2021) and was Eventual Substitute for the Vice-Director (in 2020). He was a Permanent Professor of the Postgraduate Program in Biosciences at the Anísio Teixeira Campus of UFBA in Vitória da Conquista/BA, from its creation until June 2018, when he requested de-accreditation to concentrate his activities at the UFBA Campuses in Salvador/BA. He completed a postdoctoral internship in Regenerative Dentistry at King's College London under the supervision of Scientist Paul Thomas Sharpe from May 1, 2017 to April 30, 2018. He has experience in Histology, coordinating and/or teaching Undergraduate and/or Postgraduate courses, and developing research projects on the behavior of cells and extracellular matrices of oral tissues in normal and pathological processes.
