Graduated in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry from Andhra University (1961), India. Did Masters in Meteorology and Oceanography from Andhra University in 1965 and obtained Ph.D. in Meteorology from the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) in 1981. Fields of specialization are Dynamic Meterorology, Climatology, Hydrology of large bacins and Environmental Sciences. Presently interested in Meteorology, Climatology and Hydrology of the Amazon region and Climate variability and change. Started his career in the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (India) in 1966. Worked for the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) as Expert in Numerical Weather Prediction during 1991-93. Was President of the Brazilian Meteorological Society during two years, 2001 and 2002. Was vice-Director of CPTEC and Head of Meteorology and Oceanography Laboratory. Retired from the National Institute for Space Reasearch (INPE) as Senior Research Scientist, after a long and fruitful career, in 2009. Was Professor at the State University of Amazonas, Manaus from 2009-2013. Taught Applied Mathematics, Dynamic Meteorology, Atmospheric Thermodynamics and many other courses. Supervised 12 doctoral students and 19 MS students. Published more than 70 research articles in international and Brazilian journals including Journal of the Atmospheric Sciences, Monthly Weather Review, Journal of Climate, Weather and Forecasting, Boundary Layer Meteorology, Tellus, International Journal of Climatology, Theoretical and Applied Climatology, Meteorology and Atmospheric Physics, Geophysical Research Letters, Atmospheric Research Letters, Meteorological Applications, Revista Brasileira de Meteorologia, Annales Geophysicae, Acta Amazônica, Advances in Space Research and Journal of Hydrometeorology. Published a digital book entitled 'Rudimentos de Meteorologia' in Portuguese. Given several short cources in Peru´s National Meteorological Service as Guest Professor. Present affiliations: PVNS-CAPES at INPA, Manaus, AM, and Voluntary Collaborator at INPE, São José dos Campos, SP. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
