CV Lattes ORCID

Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Escola de Comunicações e Artes (ECA)  (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal)
Birthplace: Brazil

Lilian Campesato is an artist, researcher and curator. I have been a Research Fellow at the University of São Paulo since 2020; and a Research Affiliate at NuSom - Research Centre on Sonology since 2012. Co-founder of Sonora (music and gender network, 2015). Main interests are: listening and aurality; noise; experimental music and sound art; gender studies. My publications mainly address the investigation of the politics of listening, (including gender issues and its subjective dimension) as well as the existence of hegemonic discourses in the treatment of experimental repertoire of music and sound art. As an active member of the Research Center on Sonology (NuSom), an interdisciplinary facility at the University of São Paulo I was responsible for organizing artistic events, local seminars and an international meeting, the Sonologia 2016 - Out of Phase - International Conference on Sound Studies, a conference that received about 160 submissions, of which 40 presentations were selected from 14 countries. This experience led to my participation as a guest editor (along with colleagues Rui Chaves and Fernando Iazzetta) of the 6th issue of Interference: A Journal of Audio Culture (in 2018). Although my main activity has been focused on research, my artistic practice was produced in line with my academic research. I have developed an extensive work as a sound artist and performer that has been presented in festivals and venues in Brazil and abroad (Portugal, Spain, UK, France, Denmark, Argentina, Colombia, Mexico). This academic and artistic experience helped develop competences and skills that I consider to be significant for the development of this research, including: the conduction of long-term cooperation with individual researchers and large research groups; participation in collective artistic and bibliographic production; leadership in the processes of nucleation of new groups, expressed in the co-foundation of academic research groups (such as Laura: lugar de pesquisas em auralidade (2019) [Laura: place for aurality researches]; and Microfonias: intention and sharing of listening" in partnership with Brazilian composer and researcher Valéria Bonafé (since 2017), and non-academic networks [Sonora: musics and feminisms]; curatorial expertise and organizational skills expressed in the participation of co-organizer of major national and international academic and artistic events. Currently, she integrates the research team for the project AmplifyHer: voicing the experience of women musicians in Brazil, a partnership between the University of São Paulo and Manchester Metropolitan University. In addition, she develops a research project on listening and subjectivity in women's recorded voice testimonies. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
