Renato Janine Ribeiro has been Minister of State for Education, from April 6 to October 5, 2015. Since 1994, he has been a full professor from the University of São Paulo, in the discipline of Ethics and Political Philosophy. He is the president of the SBPC (Brazilian Society for the Progress of Science) since July 2021, with a mandate until 2023. In 2016 he became Honorary Professor at the Institute of Advanced Studies at USP. He is a senior researcher at CNPq and senior professor at the University of São Paulo. He is an honorary citizen of the State of Piauí. He is an academic emeritus at the Academia Paulista de Direito. In the field of arts and culture, he is a member of the Inhotim Advisory Council. He is also a member of the Academy of Sciences of the State of São Paulo, the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, the Superior Council for Advanced Studies of FIESP and the Council of the Padre Anchieta Foundation. He was a visiting professor at UNIFESP, between 2018 and 2020, where he created, in 2019, the Institute of Advanced and Convergent Studies (IEAC-UNIFESP), of which he was the first president, between November 2019 and February 2020. He graduated in Philosophy from USP in 1971 and defended his master's degree at the Université de Paris-I, Panthéon-Sorbonne, in 1973. He completed his doctorate in Philosophy from the University of São Paulo in 1984. He graduated 20 doctors and 17 masters. He has been a representative of USP Full Professors on the University Council. He has published 106 articles published in collective books, as well as 19 books as a sole author, 4 in partnership (one with Flavio Gikovate, one with Mario Sergio Cortella, one with Alberto Carlos Almeida and one with José Murilo de Carvalho, Roberto da Matta, Jurandir Freire Costa and José Geraldo Couto) and also organized 4 collective books. He took part at 18 events in Brazil, then stopped counting them. He has published 87 papers in specialized journals, 14 works in event annals and 21 prefaces and/or afterwords. He received the Jabuti award for best essay published in Brazil (2001), the National Order of Scientific Merit (1997), the Order of Rio Branco (2009), the Order of Naval Merit (2015) and the Grand Medal of Inconfidência (2018). He presided over the 1st Congress of Scholars of Brazil in Europe, in Salamanca (2008). He conceived and presented two series of television programs on Ethics, on TV Futura, later presented on TV Globo, comprising the first of six programs on Dilemmas and the second, also of 6 programs, on Freedom. He was a consultant for Novo Telecurso, for the Philosophy subject. He works in the area of Political Philosophy, with an emphasis on political theory. He was a member of the Deliberative Council of the CNPq (1993-7), of the SBPC Council (1997-9, 2019-21), secretary of the SBPC (1999-2001). As Director of Evaluation at the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel - Capes (2004-8), in 2004 and 2007 he directed the three-year evaluations of more than 2,500 master's and doctoral courses in Brazil. He was a member of the Deliberative Council of the Institute of Advanced Studies at USP. He belonged to its Academic Activities Committee. He presided over the Ethics Council of the same University and the Ethics Committee of the CIEB - Innovation Center for Brazilian Education. Its H index is 44, and its i10 index is 115.
