He holds a degree in Social Sciences from the Federal University of Bahia (1993), a master's degree in Social Anthropology from the State University of Campinas (1996), and a PhD in Social Sciences from the State University of Campinas (2003). He is a Full Professor at the Center for Arts, Humanities, and Letters of the Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia, Cachoeira campus, and a permanent professor in the Postgraduate Program in Social Sciences of the Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia. He is a permanent professor in the Postgraduate Program in Ethnic and African Studies of the Federal University of Bahia and an Associate Researcher I at the Institute of African Studies of the Federal University of Pernambuco. He completed a Postdoctoral internship as a Visiting Scholar at the African and African Diaspora Studies Department of the University of Texas at Austin, supported by CAPES through a Senior Internship grant (Nov. 2013-Dec. 2014). He was a Richard E. Greenleaf Fellow at the Latin American Library at Tulane University in New Orleans (Jan-Feb 2020). He served as Program Co-Chair for the XXXVIII International Congress of the Latin American Studies Association LASA 2020 - Améfrica Ladina: linking worlds and knowledge, weaving hope. He has experience in Anthropology and Cultural Studies, with an emphasis on Anthropological Theory and Anthropology of Afro-Brazilian Populations and the Diaspora, working mainly on the following themes: race relations, sexuality and gender.
