Birthplace: Brazil

Recipient of the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) Young Investigator Researcher Award. Advising Professor in the Structural and Functional Biology (Full), Microbiology and Immunology (Federal University of São Paulo - UNIFESP), and Interunit Bioinformatics Graduate Programs (University of São Paulo). Review Editor for Frontiers in Virology (Systems Virology), ad hoc reviewer for several scientific journals, and Full Member of Sigma Xi - The Scientific Research Honor Society (USA). My research focuses on viral epidemiological surveillance in bats and utilizes High-Performance Computing (HPC) to investigate the molecular epidemiology, genetics, and evolution of intra- and inter-host viral pathogens. I employ machine-learning algorithms, phylogenomics, phylogeography, phylodynamics, and phyloanatomy, with a particular emphasis on emerging and re-emerging viral pathogens (both animal and human) relevant to Public Health. My academic journey includes a degree in Pharmacy from the Faculty of Technology and Sciences (FTC) (Salvador-BA), with undergraduate research conducted at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP), São Paulo-SP. I also hold a Master's degree in Functional and Molecular Biology and a Ph.D. in Genetics and Molecular Biology (with an emphasis on Microbiology, Bioinformatics, and Viral Molecular Evolution) from UNICAMP, with part of my research conducted at the Viral Molecular Evolution Group (Marco Salemi's Lab) at the Emerging Pathogens Institute (EPI), University of Florida (UF), Gainesville, FL, USA. My Postdoctoral (PD) studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) focused on large-scale analyses of phylogenetics, phylodynamics, and global epitope mapping of Influenza A and B viruses. Furthermore, I pursued additional PD studies at UNICAMP (2019-20: Bioinformatics, Evolution, and Molecular Epidemiology of Coronaviruses). In addition, I have also served as a Visiting Researcher at the Department of Virology, Aggeu Magalhães Institute (IAM) - Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (FIOCRUZ), Recife-PE (2016-2018), and at EPI-UF (2018).
