Sérgio Luiz Gama Nogueira Filho

Full Professor, Universidade Estadual de Santa Crus, Ilhéus Bahia, Brazil. Graduated in Agronomy from Universidade de São Paulo (1985), master's in Animal Science from Universidade de São Paulo (1990), Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology (Animal Behavior) from Universidade de São Paulo (1997), and post-doc in Wildlife management from University of Hawaii (2006). In the areas of Animal Science and Applied Zoology research the following topics: animal behavior, animal nutrition, animal production, Neotropical mammals, and wildlife management. Established production systems for capybaras, collared and white-lipped peccaries; developed capture and restraining techniques for these Neotropical mammals; determined their nutritional requirements and related aspects of their social behavior to handling/management techniques. Lately, started to research the management of endangered wild species, such as sea turtles and the golden-headed lion tamarin; to study the negative impacts caused by wild animals; and to evaluate techniques to mitigate damage caused by the increasing population of some wild animal species. Besides being awarded the International Prize (Prize Non-Conventional Breeding and Minilivestock), he was honored by the Comunidad de Manejo de Fauna Silvestre en la Amazonía y Latinoamérica (COMFAUNA) for my 30 years of work in the area. In the administrative area, was vice-director of the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences of UESC, coordinator of the Animal Science Graduation Program of UESC, besides participating in the Collegiate of Veterinary Medicine and the Animal Science Graduation Program of UESC. Since 2021 is member of the Advisory and Evaluation Chamber of the Research Support Foundation of the State of Bahia - FAPESB, in the area of Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences.
