João Vianei Soares

Assistant Professor at UNESP Ilha Solteira on Agrometeorology from 1981 through 198. Senior Researcher with INPE (joined in1987). Agricultural Engineer from Federal University of Viçosa (1979), Master of Sciences in Agricultural Engineering from Federal de Viçosa (1981) and PhD on Physics of Remote Sensing from University of Paris (Paris 7 1986). In 2010 got a MBA in Public Administration from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (RJ), with focus on Innovation in Science and Technology. Was a CNPq Reseracher from 1996 through 2010. Visiting Scientist with University of California, Santa Barbara and NASA´s Jet propulsion Laboratory (1990 and 1991). Has experience in Earth Observations with Remote Sensing technology and Agricultural Engineering, focusing on Soil and Water Conservation, Amazônia Land Use and Cover Change, agriculture, climatology and hydrology and Environmental Modelling. Worked as technical Consultant with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brail in establishing Brazil membership to the Group on Earth Observations from 2003 through 2005. Was a Deputy member for Brazil in the GEO Executive Committee in2007-2008 and 2010. Chaired de GEO Committee on Capacity Building from 2006 through 2010. Served at the GEO Secretariat in GENEVA, CH, as Haut Fonctionnaire with WMO (Diplomatic mission) were he worked on the Development of GEOGLAM - GEO Global Agricultural Monitoring for three years (2011-2013). Represented INPE at CEOS plenaries and the CEOS SIT (Strategic Implementation Team) between 2004 and 2010. At INPE served as Coordinator of Remote Sensing Master of Sciences program (1993-1994), Head of the Remote Sensing Division (2003-2005) and Director for Earth Observations (2006-2010). Retired from INPE in August 201. from August 2017 through January 2019, served as Coordinator for the China Brazil Earth Resources Satellite Applications Program.
