Maria Fernanda Derntl

Professor and researcher at the School of Architecture and Urban Planning of thew University of Brasília since 2010. Graduated at the Schoolf of Architecture and Urban Planning of the University of São Paulo, has master and PhD degree from the same School. Author of the book Método e Arte: urbanização e formação territorial na capitania de São Paulo, 1765-1811 (ed. Alameda/FAPESP, 2013), which was distinguished with honorable mention by the National Association for Research and Post-graduation in Urban and Regional Planning (ANPUR) in 2013 and in 2015 (for the paper derived from thesis). Co-organized books in the field of urban and city history, which include Brasília 50+50: city, history and project (EdUnB, 2014), Arquitetura, Estética e Cidade: questões da modernidade ( FAU-UnB, 2014) and Cotidianos, escolas e patrimônio: percepções antropourbanísticas da capital do Brasil (EdUnB, 2021). She is associate editor of Paranoá journal (FAU-UnB). Leader of the research group Capital e Periferia, which is supported by the national research agencies in Brazil. Supervises post-graduation thesis and dissertations and regularly takes part in the scientific committee of seminars in the fields of History of Architecture and History of Urban and Regional Planning. Coordinates the area of History, Theory and Criticism in the Post-graduation course of he School of Architecture and Urban Planning of thew University of Brasília. Collaborates in research with the Department of Architecture of the University of Pretoria. In 2021, her paper won the Xth Milton Santos Prize by ANPUR. Her current research deals with the hsitory and development of the capital city of Braspilia and its social representations, in comparative perspective, focusing on satellite towns and the territory beyond the iconic Pilot Plan.
