Weller holds a PhD in economic history from the London School of Economics. He passed his viva in 2011 with the dissertation ?When Banks Rescued Governments: Debt Crises and Creditor-Sovereign Relations in Brazil and Mexico, 1888-1914,? which was supervised by professor Colin Lewis. Weller has been working at the São Paulo School of Economics, Fundação Getúlio Vargas (EESP-FGV) since 2012. He teaches economic history at the undergrad and graduate levels. His field of research is the history of sovereign debt and economic policy during the first financial globalisation (c. 1870-1914). ). Weller is a Research Fellow at the University College London, where he develops the research "Polity and State Finance in the Peripheries of the First Financial Globalisation" in co-authorship with Dr. Ali Coskun Tuncer. Weller concluded a master program in economic history at the London School of Economics in 2006, a master in economics at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in 2002, and a bachelor in economics at the same university, in 1999.
