Bachelor's at Mathematics at the University of São Paulo (1980). She obtained a master's degree in Mathematics from the University of São Paulo (1985). Her PhD in Mathematics was "sandwich" from the University of São Paulo and University of New Mexico (USA) (1993), in the area of #8203;#8203;Operator Algebra. Since 1983 she has been a professor at the University of São Paulo. In addition to working in the area of #8203;#8203;specific Mathematics, she has worked with initial and continuing teacher training. From May 2011 to May 2017, she was Director of CAEM - Center for the Improvement of Mathematics Teaching at IME-USP. She is the supervisor of the Masters in Mathematics and the Professional Masters in Mathematics Teaching at IME-USP.
