Birthplace: Brazil

L. M. Bezerra is a civil engineer and university professor with Ph.D. in Computational Mechanics from Carnegie Mellon University, USA, 1993. Post-doctorates in 2003/2004 at University of Alberta, and in 2015/2016 at École Polytechnique de Montreal, both in Canada. He has a M.Sc. in Structures from the Pontifical Catholic University, PUC-Rio, 1980, and his degree in civil engineering is from the Federal University of Ceará, UFC, Fortaleza, 1977. He has professional experience in Brazil, Europe, USA, and Canada. In Brazil, as an engineer of the National Nuclear Energy Commission (CNEN), he worked at the Nuclear Energy Institute (IEN) in Rio de Janeiro. He was sent in official mission to work in Genoa, Italy, and worked there for 4 years at NIRA (Nucleare Italiana Reattore Avanzati - Ansaldo Group). In NIRA, his main work was in the stress analyses of nuclear reactor components. In this period, he produced more than 40 technical reports. Despite invitations to stay in NIRA, he decided to return to Brazil. Back in Brazil, among other positions, he was the chief supervising engineer in the thermonuclear area of the Brazilian company PROMON, in São Paulo. In 1994, he became a Full Researcher at the Institute of Energy and Nuclear Research (IPEN - published in DOU-15/12/1994), in São Paulo. After this extensive professional experience, he decided to devote himself to higher education associated with research, and then, he joined the Department of Civil Engineering in the University of Brasilia (UnB). He became a Full Professor at UnB in 2017. In addition to teaching, he was head of the Postgraduate Program in Structures and Civil Construction and Coordinator of the Structures Area. For short periods, he was a visiting researcher at the Università degli Studi di Bologna (1999), inn Italy, and at the University of Alberta (2004), in Canada. He is the author of several articles in scientific journals, conferences and workshops. In professional practice, in Brazil, Europe and Canada, he participated in complex engineering projects performing stress analysis in the areas of civil and nuclear engineering. Areas of research interest: Finite Element and Boundary Element, Steel Structures, Dynamics of Structures, Fracture Mechanics, Inverse Problems of damage identification and Stress Analysis of Nuclear Reactors. He advised 42 Master Dissertations and 15 PhD Theses. He speaks fluent Portuguese, English and Italian, reasonably French and some Spanish and German. Hobby: Music. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
