Mucopolysaccharidoses comprise a subclass of lysosomal diseases caused by a deficiency in the enzymes that catabolize glycosaminoglycans; charged carbohydrates that accumulate in the lysosomes and cause pathologic bone, cardiopulmonary, auditive, and neurocognitive phenotypes.
