Juliana Torres holds a BA in History from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, an MA in Social History from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, and a PhD from the University of São Paulo. She teaches Modern History at the Federal University of Bahia. She is interested in the area of Religious History, especially in the following topics: episcopate and Inquisition in the Early Modern Period, theological debates of the Second Scholasticism, history of the Order of Preachers, christianization of the "Estado da Índia", witchcraft and demonization of magical-religious practices in the Portuguese Empire.
