Birthplace: Brazil

Professor Valdemiro P. Carvalho-Jr holds a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from the State University of Piauí (2005), a Master's degree in Chemistry from the University of São Paulo (2008), and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of São Paulo (2012). He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Liège, Belgium (20122013). He is currently an Associate Professor (with tenure) in Inorganic Physical Chemistry at São Paulo State University (UNESP), awarded in 2022. He is a faculty member of the Graduate Program in Chemistry at the Institute of Biosciences, Humanities and Exact Sciences (IBILCE CAPES rating 5). He has coordinated three research grants funded by FAPESP: one Young Investigator Award (Grant No. 2013/10002-0, 20142017), two Regular Research Grants (Grant No. 2018/06340-1, 20192021; and Grant No. 2021/13128-1, 07/202206/2024), one Equipment Repair Grant (Grant No. 2021/10915-2, 12/202111/2022), and three travel support grants for scientific meetings: two international (Grant Nos. 2025/05609-0 and 2018/07900-0) and one national (Grant No. 2022/04410-8), for paper presentation and invited lecture, respectively. He coordinated the 1st Science and Technology Fair linked to the 19th National Science and Technology Week in 2022 (Grant No. 404664/2022-9). Internationally, he collaborates with Professor Walter Baratta on the development of ruthenium catalysts for homogeneous catalysis (CNPq Call No. 16/2024; Grant No. 404854/2024-9; and FAPESP Grant No. 2024/15926-0). He also collaborates with Professor Lionel Delaude, who hosted Ph.D. students Patrik Dione Gois de Santana (PDSE Scholarship; Grant No. 88881.624419/2021-01) and Thaís Regina Cruz (PDSE Scholarship; Grant No. 88881.690136/2022-01) for sandwich doctoral internships at the University of Liège between 2021 and 2022. Nationally, he is an associated researcher in three research projects: one CNPq Universal 2021 Grant Track A (Grant No. 404435/2021-1) and two FAPEMIG grants (APQ-00372-22 and APQ-04980-23) in partnership with Professor André Luiz Bogado, focusing on hydrogen production from formic acid for fuel cells. He was the tutor of the PET/UNESP Tutorial Education Program in Chemistry and Physics (20192025). He is a member of the Scientific Committee for Exact Sciences, Earth Sciences, and Engineering. He currently serves as Head of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at FCT/UNESP. He coordinates the Laboratory of Organometallic Catalysis and Materials (LaCOM) and is an ad hoc reviewer for the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP). He also served as Chair of the Permanent Research Committee at FCT/UNESP (20222024). His research experience lies in the field of Chemistry, with emphasis on Organometallic Catalysis, mainly in the following areas: 1. Development of novel catalytic systems to mediate the coupling of reactions with distinct mechanisms via tandem catalysis; 2. Hydrogen production via formic acid dehydrogenation and hydrogen transfer reactions from ketones and CO#8322; using alcohols catalyzed by ruthenium organometallic complexes.
