Conrado Dess is a researcher, theater director, and playwright. He graduated in Performing Arts from the School of Communications and Arts at the University of São Paulo (ECA/USP), with an emphasis on Theater Theory (2017). He holds a Master's degree (2021) and is a Ph.D. candidate in Performing Arts at the same institution, both under the supervision of Sílvia Fernandes and supported by a FAPESP scholarship. He is also a Ph.D. candidate in Theater and Performance Studies at the University of Lisbon, under the supervision of José Maria Vieira Mendes. He completed a master's research internship at the Spanish National Research Council (Madrid, Spain) under the supervision of Óscar Cornago (2020) and a doctoral research internship at the University of Witwatersrand (Johannesburg, South Africa) under the supervision of Achille Mbembe (2023), both supported by a BEPE-FAPESP scholarship. His research focuses on theater and race, emphasizing representation in the performing arts and the aesthetic, political, and social implications of the presence of Black bodies in contemporary theater.
