His research focuses primarily on musical manifestations in Brazil, with a special interest in two aspects: composition and musical analysis.Active both in the realm of popular and concert music, his work seeks to break restrictive barriers in the creative field. His work is aesthetically diverse, but the influence of elements of Brazilian culture is striking.Artistically, he has experience as a composer, arranger, instrumentalist (guitar, guitar, and cavaquinho), choral conductor, producer, and musical director. He has performed in hundreds of concerts and shows, solo or with various groups (such as Seis com Casca, Bicho de Pé, and Potiguara Menezes Trio, for example) and artists (such as Leila Pinheiro, Dominguinhos, Elba Ramalho, Chico César, Carlos Papel, among others), in the last 30 years, in Brazil, the United States, Europe, and Korea. He has dozens of recorded albums (CDs, DVDs, and digital platforms) and many compositions written, performed, and/or recorded. In the academic field, his main interest as a researcher is the music of the 20th and 21st centuries, in its various manifestations in Brazil. He has already conducted research on the relationship between Brazilian cultural identity and contemporary concert music (2009-2017). Since joining higher education teaching (2017-present), he has focused on the genres of Brazilian popular music, such as forró, choro, samba, samba-enredo, bossa nova, and improvised instrumental music - coordinating and/or guiding research projects aimed at documenting and reflecting on such musical genres.Menezes acts as a reviewer for relevant journals and conferences in the country. He has participated in dozens of evaluation committees for academic works, as well as public tenders and selection processes for hiring professors. He was also a member of the judging panel for the São Paulo carnival (samba enredo) for three years.Currently, he seeks to explore possibilities brought about by the use of new technological research tools, as well as to expand his horizons through unprecedented partnerships with artists and institutions, both in Brazil and abroad.
