Birthplace: Brazil

Possui Graduação (2000), Mestrado (2001) e Doutorado (2006) em Física pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul . The author has an established track record of work with advanced ultrafast (femtosecond) time resolved experiments for more than five years. The main subject has been the investigation of the ultrafast molecular and reactive dynamics in condensed phase, namely, from molecular liquids to complex fluids, confined systems (nanodroplets), etc. The author?s research interests are in the application of spectroscopic, optical and analytical techniques for the characterization of complex systems and advanced materials, also development of new science and technology in these fields. During doctoral research the author constructed a time-resolved optical Kerr effect (OKE) spectrometer and an interferometricaly based femtosecond pulse characterization technique. In his first postdoctoral appointment the author developed experience with the construction of vibrational spectroscopy (CARS) and transient absorption techniques. Since the second postdoctoral appointment at the University of East Anglia the author has been responsible for the construction of a state-of-the-art ultrashort time resolution transient grating spectrometer based on diffractive optics element, which allows the measurement of the isotropic and anisotropic motions of molecules in liquids. Also, for the first time, this technique has been coupled to a rheometer for the measurement of the dynamics of liquids under strain. In addition the author has constructed an ultrafast fluorescence up-conversion spectrometer equaling the best time-resolution known worldwide, which has been applied to the study of reaction dynamics in confined media.
