Antonio Alvaro Ranha Neves is a professor at the Federal University of ABC region (UFABC), Brazil, accredited in the graduate program of Nanoscience and Advanced Materials, and OPTICA senior member (previously OSA). He works mainly with the experimental and theoretical forces of optical tweezers. His Ph.D. in physics was obtained in 2006, at the State University of Campinas (Brazil). From 2006 to 2012, he conducted his postdoctoral training and as a researcher at the National Nanotechnology Laboratories of the Nanoscience Institute in Lecce, Italy (now CNR-Nano), within the Softmatter division. He has been a member of the leadership group for Optica Technical groups on Optical Cooling and Trapping (2013-2015), he has been an ambassador for the ORCID in Brazil (2013-2016), Group leader for the International Physicists' Tournament team UFABC (2017-2019), and currently, advisor of the OPTICA Student Chapter (since 2019) at UFABC. His main research interest is in the field of light-matter interaction, mainly the applications of optical tweezers, in the past including linear and multi-photon spectroscopy as well. His current research theme is the characterization of motility with optical tweezers and acoustic optical forces. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
