Birthplace: Brazil

I am a Professor at the Lorena School of Engineering - University of São Paulo (EEL-USP) and served as the Vice-Head of the Department of Biotechnology (2019-2021). I have dedicated my efforts to the prospecting of genes involved in the biosynthesis of lignocellulosic plant biomass and the control of plant biomass, aiming to modify cell wall recalcitrance, increase plant biomass, and identify marker elements of biotechnological interest. In 2016, we established the Plant Genomics and Bioenergy Laboratory (PGEMBL - sites.usp.br/pgembl/), with the objective of conducting research and training qualified human resources in the following areas: bioinformatics, phylogenetic analysis, evolution, plant anatomy and physiology, plant development (Evo-Devo), functional genomics, cloning, and gene expression.I graduated in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF) in 2004, where I developed a scientific initiation project in the area of plant cytogenetics. To understand the molecular mechanisms responsible for plant growth and development, I pursued a master's degree (2006) in Genetics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) at the Laboratory of Plant Molecular Genetics (LGMV). I completed a sandwich PhD (2010) in the same area, conducting part of my studies at the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon (France) and the University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA), enhancing my theoretical and practical knowledge in Plant Molecular Genetics.During my postdoctoral research, I worked in bioinformatics for the identification, annotation, phylogeny, and evolution of genes, as well as epigenetics, studying microRNAs and their mRNA targets.
